Weekly Watch Focus: Christians in the Middle East

FRIDAY, JANUARY 7, 2011. On New Year’s Eve, a suicide bomber attacked a Coptic Christian Church in Egypt. Twenty-one people were killed, but the carnage would have been much greater had he not been stopped by guards before he entered the packed evening service. In the last weeks multiple churches have been set on fire or bombed from Nigeria to the Philippines, Egypt and Iraq. More attacks are threatened in the coming days, especially in the Middle East where Christians are experiencing increased pressure and intimidation. Pray that God will protect His Church and believers everywhere. Pray that the Lord will look on these threats and give the Christians in the Middle East boldness and power to proclaim the gospel. Pray for a mighty move of revival and that thousands will come into the Kingdom of God.

Matt 5:11-12 Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Acts 4:29-30 29 Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, 30 by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.

Rev. 12:11 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

1 Peter 4:12-13 12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 13 but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.
