Watch Focus Oct 3rd 2025: Our Great High Priest
This week the Jewish People observed Yom Kippur the day of atonement the holiest day of the year following Rosh Hashanah the Jewish New Year. In light of Yom Kippur we look to Jesus our Great High Priest who has cleansed and continually cleanses our sins. We understand the reality of Hebrews 10:4, “For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.”
Yom Kippur as the Old Testament shadow fulfilled fully in Jesus Christ demonstrates human messiness meeting divine mercy. This gives us great hope for the nation that God has appointed we dwell in. As Aaron the high priest would sacrifice a bull for his own sins first and then goats for the people let us come before our Great High Priest Jesus humbling ourselves, confessing our sins continually so we can engage effectively with our culture through the effective communication of the Gospel. The majority of western people are hurried, distracted and oblivious that the Day is coming!
We pray the Church has a fresh revelation on the completeness of Jesus finished work and shed blood in the absolute dealing with sin in our natures and behavior.
We pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit. We recognize the importance of John 16:8, “And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:” How much evidence are we seeing of this? A Christian flight attendant on a plane close to going down commented that many people were saying God help me but no one was saying God forgive me! We have a self righteousness problem in the West.
We pray the Gospel runs swiftly through our land according to 2 Thessalonians 3:1, “Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you,
The Lord through multiple people has been directing us in this season to echo Paul’s Apostolic prayer from Colossians 1:9-11, “For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;”
May we echo Jesus words in Hebrews 10:9, “then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.”
We pray Philemon 6 (AMPLIFIED), “I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective and powerful because of your accurate knowledge of every good thing which is ours in Christ.”
In this hour as the believing Church of Jesus Christ we rejoice in eternal hope remembering Jesus words from Luke 10:20, “Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”
