Weekly Watch Focus: Thanksgiving 2011

FRIDAY, November 18, 2011.
As a nation, we choose to give thanks at this time of year following the tradition of our founders. As believers we should be thankfulalways. Presently, millions of our countrymen are jobless, and we are a debtor nation. But the Bible-model shows us that choosing thanksgiving to God in the midst of trouble leads to great deliverance as seen in the lives of Bible heroes such as Jehoshaphat (2 Chron. 20), Jonah in the Whale, or Paul in the Philippian jail (Acts 16). This Thanksgiving, give thanks for our Savior, for the Bible, for our nation, for our parents and grandparents, for our armed forces, for our church leaders, and for our basic provisions of food and shelter. May the God of Israel, whom the Pilgrims blessed continue to watch over us and Bless America.

Eph 5:18-20, And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, 19addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Rom 1:21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Luke 9:16 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people.

Ps 103: 1-5 Bless the Lord, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies, who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Col. 3:15, “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.”

Ps. 106:1, “O give thanks to the Lord; for He is good; for His mercy endures forever.”

Ps. 105:1; Eph. 5:20; Ps. 18:48; Luke 1:71.
