Weekly Watch Focus: Brexit—Pray for Our Ally Great Britain

FRIDAY, June 10, 2016, Great Britain has been a special friend and ally of the U.S. throughout the last 100 years and beyond, through World War I and World War II, and more recently in the War on Terror. Let us once again lift up in prayer our friend Great Britain. In two weeks, on June 23, the British will hold a referendum that will determine the UK’s relationship with Europe for generations to come. The issue is whether the country should exit the European Union or continue their membership.

Many believe that the European Union, which formed as an economic community in 1973, has widened its original scope, trying to control the member states way beyond the original intent of the union. One of the more recent issues has been that member states have been forced to receive hundreds of thousands of new immigrants, most without papers, originating from the Middle East and North Africa. This has resulted in increased levels of violent crimes and great economic burdens within the host countries. Those urging for the British to remain in the EU believe there are still economic advantages from membership.  This is a critical time of decision-making for our British friends. Pray that God will guide the upcoming decision. May the British have divine wisdom to keep their nation safe and prosperous. May the British remain free to continue to be a true friend of Israel.

Lev. 26:6, “I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none will make you afraid; I will rid the land of evil beasts, and the sword will not go through your land.

2 Sam 24:25b, “And David built there an altar to the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the Lord heeded the prayers for the land, and the plague was withdrawn from Israel.”
